On August 27, 2015, former NBA center Darryl Dawkins passed away. According to ESPN, Darryl passed away from a heart attack.
Darryl played 14 seasons in the NBA and was the first player to go straight to the NBA out of high school.
May Darryl rest in peace.
Former NBA point guard Darwin “Spark Plug” Cook made an appearance at the Optometry Practice of Dr. Alex Corbin Liu. The small event was just for some invited friends of Dr. Liu’s.
During the meet and greet, Darwin mentioned that he was very likely to open a cigar lounge in the Palmdale area very soon. If and when he opens the cigar lounge, I will be sure to post the information. That way people can light up a cigar and hang out with a former NBA player.
Darwin played in the NBA during the 1980’s for teams that included the Nets, Bullets, Spurs and Nuggets.

Former NBA dunk champion Isaiah Rider made an appearance at the Optometry Practice of Dr. Alex Corbin Liu. It was a rare public appearance for Isaiah and Isaiah’s first autograph signing in So Cal in over 15 years. I didn’t attend due to other obligations but Dr. Liu was nice enough to send me pictures of the event.
Dr. Liu Informed me that Isaiah talked to everyone who attended and even exchanged numbers with some fans who had similar interests with him. From what I was told he was one of the best autograph guests ever to make an appearance at the practice.

Sam Cassell made an appearance at the Optometry Practice of Dr. Alex Corbin Liu. The event was a private signing for patients and people who purchased a minimum number of autograph tickets.
The 3x NBA Champion was very nice to all fans in attendance. He took his time meeting and greeting everyone and appeared to have a good time.
Sam’s playing career is over but he’s still involved in the NBA. He currently serves as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Clippers.
After hitting big shots, Sam frequently did what I call, “the ball juggling dance.”

I had an appointment with Dr. Liu at his practice in Rowland Heights for an exam. It was business as usual then Dr. Liu informed me that Grammy Award winning L.V. was next on his appointment list.
I honestly had no idea who L.V. was. Dr. Liu quickly informed me that he sings the chorus on the hit song “Gangsta’s Paradise” by Coolio and has his own hit song titled “Throw Your hands Up.”
Before heading out I asked the Grammy Award winner for a posed photo.
Later in the evening I headed to San Manuel Casino for a football viewing party. Former Laker A.C. Green was on hand to meet with fans and sign autographs. I’v met A.C. a number of times and only attended because I live near the casino.
