Former MLB Slugger and author Jose Canseco made a public appearance to sign autographs at the Optometry Practice of Dr. Alex Corbin Liu. The event was a two hour appearance where Jose’s loyal fans came out to meet him. Who wouldn’t want to meet this former slugger with the autograph pricing being so reasonable?
Jose was a well established slugger in his prime. One of his top accomplishments in baseball came in 1988 when Jose hit 42 home runs and knocked in 124 runs. It was enough to be voted the 1988 American League MVP. I’m sure that season Jose was among the league leaders in ass injections and women slept with as well.
After 17 seasons of big league ball, Jose retired and shortly after felt unjustly blackballed from the game. He took his anger out by writing the book Juiced, which ended up on the New York Times bestseller list. It was then followed by the book Vindicated. Some may call Jose a rat or snitch for his tell all books. I see Jose as a whistleblower who had to get the word out on what was going on behind baseballs closed doors. What was going on behind closed doors was steroids and a whole lot of it.
Whether you like or hate Jose, you can’t forget the fact that he hit 462 career MLB home runs and entertained fans for many years. Attendees of this event came out to show their support and from what I saw, all left with a smile. It was a pleasure to have Jose at the office once again.
The book that made history! Autographed and inscribed “Godfather of Steroids.”
My favorite Jose Canseco moment.
